Who we are
Since its foundation in 1965, Edelweiss has focused on making textile production more sustainable, becoming a pioneer in producing yarns regenerated from textile waste, both pre and post-consumer.
The production of regenerated yarns serves a dual environmental purpose: on one hand, it contributes to waste reduction, which has exponentially increased in recent decades; on the other hand, it avoids the consumption of resources associated with the production of virgin raw materials such as cotton; a process that involves significant water and chemical usage for its growth.
Attention to environmental sustainability and minimizing the impact of its activities on the environment has always guided and continues to influence every action of the company, from production processes to sourcing energy sources. This commitment is also confirmed by external certifications obtained in compliance with strict requirements and ethical codes.
The company produces Open-End and Dref yarns, both single and twisted, using textile waste as raw material and bringing it back into fibre state, ready to be spun again, woven, and transformed into garments. This circular process ideally mirrors an ecosystem, where what has served its purpose becomes the starting point for a new life.
Thanks to nearly 60 years of experience in the industry, Edelweiss is one of the few regenerated fibre spinning mills capable of creating coloured yarns simply by developing the right mix of pre-dyed fibres, thus completely avoiding the strong ecological impact associated with dyeing. The expertise of its development team also allows for the creation of yarns tailored to the specific needs of the customer, optimized for their final use.
Edelweiss, the alpine star
Edelweiss, the alpine star, a protected flower: a name chosen not by chance, but evoking the same protection that the company, through its actions and values, commits to reserving for the Planet.
This snow-white flower, which grows on rocky and hostile terrain at high altitudes, is a very resilient plant, constantly subjected to temperature fluctuations and harsh climatic conditions. It withstands the long winter frosts of the Alps, as well as strong exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet rays. For this reason, the Edelweiss is considered a symbol of purity, courage, and tenacity, as well as a great example of resilience: what better reference for a company born among the Biella mountains, a land of strong wool tradition, which instead decides to focus entirely on a completely new and antithetical project compared to its surroundings?
Mission and values
Edelweiss has always prioritized 360° environmental sustainability throughout its entire production process, striving for continuous improvement.
Sustainability includes:
- Sourcing secondary raw materials from selected suppliers that align with the company’s values and adhere to specific ethical and environmental requirements (certifications and beyond).
- Maximizing the use of renewable energy for its production.
- Avoiding any dyeing process.
- Adhering to strict ethical codes, also certified by external institutions.
For the company, flexibility and customer focus are of fundamental importance and they manifest in the design, developed by its R&D department, of yarns tailored to the specific needs of the buyer, both in terms of performance (strength, softness, ease of weaving, etc.) and price positioning. We consider our customers as partners, with whom to establish relationships of mutual trust based on transparency, honesty, and reliability.
Through the fully internal production process, which starts from textile waste and ends with yarn, the company is proud to provide a product entirely made in Italy, a guarantee of high quality in the final result.
